Roy Kim

Roy Kim has over 30 years experience as an operations, finance and management expert specializing in turnarounds, restructurings, mergers/acquisitions, due diligence, complex real estate matters, and divestitures for private and public middle market companies, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital firms.

Mr. Kim has extensive and in-depth financial and operational experience for companies seeking turnaround, restructuring, and due diligence expertise and has served as Chief Restructuring Officer and CEO for a variety of manufacturing, distribution, technology, entertainment, service, and commercial real estate entities.  He has served as an Assignee in assignments for the benefit of creditors, a court appointed receiver, and an expert witness with insolvency matters.  Mr. Kim has been appointed as Assignee or in charge of over 40 Assignments for the Benefit of Creditor engagements. Mr. Kim has worked as a CEO, President, and CFO for a number of diverse companies and venture and private equity firms including Redpoint Ventures, Insight Capital, and Redleaf Venture Management.

Recently, Mr. Kim and his team provided:

  • Restructuring, sale and wind-down of a hair salon chain with 550 stores throughout United States and Canada.
  • Chief Restructuring Officer of Bricks Hospitality, LLC, a proposed 250 unit Wyndham Hotel construction project in Downtown Los Angeles.
  • Due diligence, creation of a detailed financial plan, and served as CEO and Chief Restructuring Officer for KBC America, Inc., a leading motorcycle helmet and motorcycle accessories company with offices and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, Indonesia and South Korea.
  • Chief Restructuring Officer of the largest wine logistics company in California.
  • Management and divestiture of complex real estate holdings including corporate and residential real estate, on behalf of the senior secured creditor.
  • Management, subdividing, and divestiture of a complex agricultural, food processing, and real estate holding entity in Fresno County on behalf of a senior secured creditor.
  • Due diligence and creation of financial plan for winery.
  • Due diligence, creation of a detailed financial plan, restructuring services, and interim management for an international nano-technology chemical applications company.
  • Restructuring services for a food processing company resulting in a successful sale of the assets.
  • Restructuring services and interim management for a leading post-production and entertainment services company in Los Angeles.
  • Restructuring services for principal investors on a hotel project in Austin, TX. 

As Chief Restructuring Officer of Small World Toys, Roy worked with the management team, senior creditors and vendors resulting in a successful sale of the company.  As Chief Restructuring Officer for Amnis, Inc., a publicly traded company, he worked with the CEO, vendors, senior creditors and hedge funds to restart the company and through a one year process, generated a full recovery for the senior creditors and hedge funds. 

In previous executive positions, he was a key member of the senior executive team that raised $31 million in venture capital and corporate investment for RedCreek Communications.  As a key member of the management team at Quarterdeck Office Systems, Roy was the lead executive on mergers and acquisitions which resulted in doubling the annual revenue in two years.  Roy has extensive experience in managing operations, cost reductions and improving cash flow for middle market companies.  Roy was also a technology attorney at Cooley Godward and Fenwick & West, and a research and development engineer for Hewlett Packard.

Mr. Kim is active in the local community and was recently a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Finance Committee for I Have A Dream LA Foundation and the Korean American Coaltion.

Mr. Kim received his law degree from NYU School of Law, where he was an editor on the Journal of International Law and Politics, and received his Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, specializing in microprocessor design and software engineering, from the College of Engineering at U.C. Santa Barbara. 


Rick Ono

Rick has over 20 years of sales, marketing, product management and executive management experience with companies such as Western Digital Corp., Micom Systems, Inc., Xircom Corp., and Regis McKenna, Inc. While at Regis McKenna, Inc. Rick provided market validation, strategic planning and management consulting services to such companies as Northern Telecom and Pacific Bell. In recent years, Rick has focused his career on entrepreneurial companies. He was previously the VP of Marketing and Sales for Gateway Communications, a publicly traded manufacturer of network equipment. Rick was a key member of the team that turned the organization around, resulting in the successful sale of the company. Most recently, Rick was the COO for eStoreManager.com where he built the organization from a ground level start-up to a base of over 450 customers in less than a year. Rick was also a consultant with Sherwood Partners, Inc. and was involved in several turnaround, wind down and restructuring projects.

Rick holds and MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and a BS from the University of La Verne.
